Deep Dive (Actionable Insights)
So one of the first things I really wanted to talk about for this week’s newsletter is what the hard work really is. People always say, “work hard”…”you have to grind”…”take action”.
Here’s the issue I’ve found, what the heck does that even mean? For most people, they get excited because they’ve found an idea but they have no idea what to do next. Folks have no clue what actionable steps need to be taken to actually make their vision come to life. So…most end up in the stage of ‘analysis paralysis’, which is essentially just taking in tons of information and never actually “doing the thing.”
Clothing Brand Example
So how do you defeat this, and what are the actionable steps? Let’s unpack this. This is a very random example but let’s say you wanted to start a clothing brand. What do you do? Most people just make a social media profile and post a couple of pictures and think they’re “gonna make it big!” Absolutely NOT lol. First, you have to make a design. But there’s more mini steps inside that. So it’s going onto a website, creating a design, exporting that file, sending it to a supplier, talking to that supplier about pricing, finding out the MOQ’s, seeing what your profit margin is, calculating the shipping costs, creating a store, setting up a bank account, setting up an LLC, making copy for the ads… so on and so forth. That is what the hard work is, just doing the bs you don’t want to do. So stop watching youtube videos and go make a design! This part is called the “valley of despair” where you’re just doing stuff with no results, and this stops 99% of people. That is why it is called hard work not easy work.
Anyway, you get the point. But let’s say you do the hard work and now you want to get clients. How is that done? Well you make an ad, you show your brand. Keep in mind, you have to spend money to make money, so just do it. You have to test those ads, you have to reach out to people to wear your clothing (market research), you have to solve a problem for them. They lack x so you give them x. They want cool new aesthetic clothing, so you give it to them. You then need to network, do cold dm’s email people, offer free samples, ASK people to help you. It’s just a numbers game. If you told 1,000 people that you’ll give them something for free if they tell 5 friends that’s another 5,000 people that know know about your product, don’t you think you’ll get at least one sale from that? That’s how you get sales. It depends on the business but the process is generally the same. Cold outreach → Referrals→Inbound leads. Cold outreach is where most people get stuck, and then nobody buys from them because they didn’t keep going and they didn’t do enough of the “hard work”.
So once you have someone that wants to buy your product. What do you do, how do you sell them? Well you need to have clear messaging. You need to tell them how it will benefit them and why yours is better than someone else. If you can make them think they win, you win. You need to figure out their problems, their wants, their desires…then you capitalize on it. That’s how you sell.
If that was some good info, please subscribe, it helps alot. Until next time…
Cheers,
Kelly
